about kimberly

Kimberly’s career began in 1996 as an editorial assistant at James Publishing, and expanded into freelancing in 1998. Her work spans many genres including literary, mainstream, magical realism, fantasy, science fiction, paranormal romance, historical romance, contemporary romance, thrillers, mysteries, and non-fiction as well as business correspondence and documentation. Over the years, her clients have included national fiction publishers Baen Books and Hachette Book Group (Orbit Books, Grand Central Publishing, Forever).

Kimberly has also served as a volunteer editor at Flash Me Magazine and a volunteer copyeditor at the Internet Review of Science Fiction. In 2005, she joined the Editorial Freelancers Association, has been serving on their Twitter team since 2010, and was elected to the EFA Board of Governors as a Member at Large in 2011. She is also a member of the Association of Women in Communications since 2011.

Kimberly has enjoyed membership in several formal and informal critique groups, including the Online Writing Workshop for Science Fiction, Fantasy, and HorrorCritters, and Bastinadoes. Her writing has been published in literary journals and newsletters, as well as in a collection of adoption related stories.

Kimberly lives in a rural village near Madison, Wisconsin with her husband, two daughters, and a cat. She enjoys making money by reading books. Every now and then she even reads one just for fun. She is also a foster and adoptive mom, and was herself adopted at birth. “Scenes from the Broken Road,” a series of vignettes recounting the adoption of her first daughter, was published in A Cup of Comfort for Adoptive Families in 2009. She often shares her experiences with adoption as well as writing if you wish to follow her on TwitterFacebook, or at her blog, kimberlycreates. She does not enjoy talking about herself in the third person, but tries to keep a sense of humor about it.
